Outdoor specialist Globetrotter has renewed its lease for the store at Königsallee 88 in Düsseldorf until the end of 2021 according to TILLI City Immobilien, a real estate consultancy established at the beginning of this year and has the exclusive mandate to let the store after January 2022. Globetrotter is currently on the lookout for alternative retail premises in Düsseldorf.
The commercial building with almost 900 m2 of retail space across three levels was rebuilt ten years ago and has been leased to Globetrotter since 2015. Globetrotter initially renewed the lease until the end of 2021 when the owner found it impossible to source a suitable follow-up tenant in the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the two retail experts, the southern section of Königsallee has taken a very positive turn recently. Brabus and Sunseeker were recently joined by additional retailers and showrooms, with Coffee Fellows enhancing the location’s appeal and new tenants Benetton, Huawei, Falconieri and Zalando providing clear proof of the its attractiveness.
Despite this, it is currently still difficult to initiate and conduct negotiations on new leases. Owners are tending to renew existing leases rather than re-let. In many cases the owners are also willing to negotiate rent reductions in return for lease renewals.

In the 41 years that have passed since it was founded in 1979, Globetrotter has evolved into Europe’s big-gest outdoor retailer with more than 1,200 employ-ees. It operates 17 stores in Germany and also has very successful e-commerce operations. Globetrotter is part of Fenix Outdoor AB of Sweden. The German subsidiary Globetrotter Ausrüstung GmbH reported revenue of close to EUR 200 million in 2017.
